Children in Frankfurt

Frankfurt is a great place for children in terms of culture and education; there even is a museum just for them! The historisches museum frankfurt [Frankfurt Museum of History] founded the first children’s museum in Europe on its premises in 1972. Today, the kinder museum frankfurt [Frankfurt Children’s Museum] is located at a separate site where it offers exhibitions devised especially for children.

Many museums in Frankfurt offer art education for children and young people as part of their education programmes. These programmes focus on getting the kids to join in and immerse themselves in the experience. On every last Saturday of the month, the so-called Satourday takes place, a day packed with art and culture courses and activities for children. Admission to the special guided tours and workshops is free. During the summer holidays, many of the city’s cultural institutions offer a wide variety of holiday entertainment and games. The brochure Fantasie verleiht Flügel [Flight of Fantasy] provides listings of all programmes for children and youngsters offered by the cultural institutions.

KUKI – Cultural Education for Children and Young People is an initiative by the Culture Board of the City of Frankfurt. The portal provides an online calendar of events with information on the education programmes available at museums and other cultural institutions in Frankfurt.

The section Cultural Institutions for Children lists the city’s many cultural institutions and provides information on their main education programmes by category, e.g. Literature, Film, Science, Architecture and Cultural History, Theatre, Music and Dance. There is so much to see and do for children in Frankfurt! A separate link is provided to institutions offering children’s birthday arrangements.
