Councillor Dr. Ina Hartwig (SPD)

Born in 1963, Dr. Ina Hartwig studied Romance Languages and Literature and German Language and Literature in Avignon and Berlin. After several years as the literary editor of “Frankfurter Rundschau” (1997-2009) and editor of the quarterly review “Kursbuch” (2002-2005), she became a freelance writer, literary critic, and presenter. She held visiting professorships at the universities of St. Louis (United States), Göttingen, and Leipzig, and has been a regular contributor to “Die Zeit” and “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, among other publications. In 2011, she was awarded the Alfred Kerr Prize for literary criticism. A collection of her essays, “Das Geheimfach ist offen. Über Literatur”, was published by S. Fischer in 2012. Together with the director Ruth Beckermann, she wrote the film script to “Die Geträumten” (Austria, 2016). In the academic year 2015/16, she held a fellowship at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin (Institute for Advanced Studies in Berlin). As of July 2016, she holds the position of Head of the Department of Culture and Science of the City of Frankfurt am Main.
