Institut für Musikwissenschaft der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main

The Musical Scientific Institute was founded in 1921 and is one of the traditional institutions of Frankfurt University. Leading personalities taught and researched there, for example, Moritz Bauer, Helmut Osthoff, Ludwig Fischer.

Today, three professors, the University Music Director, two scientific assistants and several lecturers serve ca. 300 students from throughout the world. The institute has set itself the objective of representing musical science in all its forms while thereby not neglecting musical practice.

The Musicological Institute has also become increasingly attractive to ‘third age’ students.
