Alte Oper Frankfurt

Concert and Congress Centre at the Heart of the Main Metropolis

Since reopening on 28 August 1981, the Alte Oper has become an integral part of Frankfurt's cultural life and has long taken on a firm position as concert house in the international music scene. Major companies also use the representative halls and salons to hold press conferences, corporate events, gala evenings and receptions. Fully destroyed to its foundation walls and parts of the roof construction in March and April 1944, "Germany's loveliest ruin" became after World War II an archetype for how to deal with historic heritage: it was thanks to public spirit that the Late Classical building was able to be reconstructed and today enjoys a first-class reputation as concert hall and congress centre.

Famous worldwide for their outstanding acoustics, the Alte Oper's mahogany panelled Grosse Saal (2500 seats) and the Mozart Saal (700 seats) are evening for evening venues for a wide range of performances with internationally renowned ensembles and soloists: symphony and chamber concerts, song evenings, Baroque and contemporary music. Thanks to their own series of subscriber concerts, the Alte Oper is almost "home" for the Frankfurt orchestras Ensemble Modern, hr Symphony Orchestra and "Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester".

In addition to the so-called "serious music", the Alte Oper is also an ideal environment for jazz, pop, rock, light muse, readings and cabaret. And in spring, summer and at Christmas time, ensuite events can be enjoyed with dancing, musicals and children's programmes.
