Academic Orchestra / Sinfonieorchester der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main

The Symphony Orchestra of Frankfurt Goethe University also known as Academic Orchestra or Collegium Musicum is not only composed of qualified students from all faculties, but also of members of the teaching staff and former interested musicians. Each year the Orchestra develops three concert programs, one at Christmas and one at the end of each semester. Meanwhile the Orchestra has also established a reputation outside the University. For example, it was invited to arrange the Christmas concert of Bethmann Bank, it also participated in the South Hessen Cultural Summer and in the Mainz Catholic Day.

The Orchestra's program is highly diversified, ranging from baroque to modern. Symphonic works and solo concerts are rehearsed predominantly, but oratorios, operas and opera excerpts are also performed for the public together with the University's academic choir. Helmut Bartel, University Music Director, heads the Orchestra.
