The Academic Choir of the J.W. Goethe University Frankfurt am Main (Collegium musicum vocale) is open to all members and non-members of the University who enjoy singing in a choir. Founded - in May 1984 - and managed by University Music Director Christian Ridil, the choir rehearses predominantly instrumental works during the academic period and presents them publicly at Christmas and at the end of semesters in and outside Frankfurt. Alongside students of music education and musicology, teachers and students from other faculties form the main part of the Academic Choir.
The repertoire is widely divided, for example, the Choir not only sings oratorios such as Handel's "Messiah" or J.S. Bach's Dur Mass BMV 234, but has also participated in concertante performances such as Ch. Gounod's opera "Faust", G. Verdi's "Nabucco", F. Schubert's melodrama "The Magic Flute" and the operetta "Die lustigen Nibelungen". Worthy of special mention was the participation of the Choir at the concerts in France in 1999, in the year 2001 at the Music Festival Saar and the CD production of the Widor Messe in Mannheim under the direction of Christian von Blohn.
