The Senckenberg Museum Frankfurt is Germany’s major natural history museum. It presents the diversity of present-day life (biodiversity), the development of living creatures (evolution) and the transformation of our planet throughout millions of years. A visit to the Senckenberg is a memorable experience for young and old.

Parallel to the permanent exhibitions the Senckenberg also arranges special presentations whose themes are oriented to nature and the environment, although art and culture are not neglected.

The “Senckenberg Natural Research Society” is the supporting institution of the Museum, which was rebuilt in 1907, and of the Research Institute with its natural science disciplines zoology, botany, geology, palaeontology and palaeoanthropology and the relevant scientific collections. The Natural History Museum and the Research Institute regard themselves as centre for biodiversity research with the goal of presenting, understanding and preserving the diversity of life.

To extend the museum, Senckenberg will uses its own resources to build a 7,000 m2 extension on the west side of the building, making for total exhibition space of some 14,000 m2 to celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2017.
