Oper Frankfurt

The Frankfurt Opera is one of the most important opera houses in Europe. The Frankfurt Opera Orchestra named "Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra" is one of Germany's long-established orchestras. As an orchestra of the Frankfurt Opera, built at the end of the 18th century, it was at the same time the concert orchestra of the "Frankfurter Museum" founded in 1808, an association of Frankfurt citizens interested in culture and art.

After the Second World War, Georg Solti, Christoph von Dohnányi, Michael Gielen, Sylvain Cambreling and Paolo Carignani, musical directors of the Frankfurt Opera, shaped Frankfurt's musical life.

In the 2002/2003 season, the opera, which has been run by director Bernd Loebe since 2002, was the opera house of the year for the second time. From the season 2008/2009 Sebastian Weigle was appointed music director.

For three consecutive years - in 2009, 2010 and 2011 - the magazine Opernwelt awarded the "Orchestra of the Year" to the Opera and Museum Orchestra on the basis of reviews of critics.

The stylistic spectrum of the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra includes all important works of opera and symphonic literature, baroque music as well as experimental contemporary compositions. In addition, musicians of the orchestra create their own chamber music series in the foyer of the opera house in partly fixed formations.

With "Jetzt!" Oper Frankfurt has established a children and youth program with many events and offers for opera beginners from the age of 2 years.

The Frankfurt Opera is a division of Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt am Main GmbH.
