„Cinéfête” is a French youth film festival held all over Germany, which also takes place in Frankfurt. Different Frankfurt cinemas show a carefully compiled selection of French productions – all of them in their original version and with German subtitles.
The films are geared towards students from primary school up to the sixth form and are showing in several programme units in the mornings. A visit to the cinema is recognized as teaching time. A student ticket costs €3; admission for teachers is free. To prepare the visit to the cinema and to follow it up, supplementary materials on the individual films are available to teachers free of charge.
In the autumn of 2009 the popular school film festival already celebrated its 10th anniversary. The anniversary edition presented a selection of the most popular „Cinéfête” films of the past years, among them “Entre les murs”, the winner of the Palme D’Or 2008 at the Cannes film festival.
The cinema of the Deutsches Filmmuseum – together with the Cinestar Metropolis cinema and the Filmforum Höchst venue of „Cinéfête” – is closed for building work from November 2009 until spring 2011. Therefore, to plan your visit please check www.das-neue-filmmuseum.de for information on venues and dates of „Cinéfête” 11.
The festival is under the patronage of the Cultural Representative of the French Embassy and of the Hessian Minister of Education.
