In 1977, Ignes Ponto and the Dresdner Bank founded the Jürgen Ponto-Foundation in order to carry on the artistic patronage started by Jürgen Ponto when he was CEO of Dresdner Bank, before he was murdered by Red Army Fraction terrorists that same year.
The foundation’s work is based around Jürgen Ponto’s connections to young artists and his efforts to drum up more support for art. Regarding fine art, the Jürgen-Ponto-Foundation pursues the goal of promoting promising, young, unknown artists at the beginning of their careers. The Jürgen-Ponto-Foundation intends to restore emphasis on the unmediated sponsorship of artists with their current sponsorship program. Since 2003 two stipends have been offered to young artists every year.
